Fruitful talks under way about university students’ concerns

Meetings with university students have been organized in the last few days to discuss their concerns about the new measures taken by the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA).
In a post on X, Meyvis Estévez Echeverría, first secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist League, described the talks as fruitful and stressed that the Cuban youth is a pillar of the country that cannot be defeated.
“We condemn any attempt of manipulation intended to cause division in our midst. We have seen intense days of dialogue with our students, precisely at the University of Havana, a historical cradle of thought and Revolution”, she wrote. “The unity between young people and their Revolution is unbreakable, and together we will defend our rightful achievements. True to its traditions, the University will continue to be a source of critical thinking, but also a bulwark of Cuban sovereignty".
On her end, University of Havana rector Miriam Nicado García pointed out in her Facebook profile that she talked with students and professors of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University in what she described as “a meeting among revolutionaries”.
Since May 30, when ETECSA implemented new regulations about Internet use, representatives of the Government, national organizations and staff members of the company have been in constant contact with the population to explain the details and jointly build strategies to improve the service.
